About Us

The Mars Hill Farmers and Artisans Market is going into their 26th year. We are a producer only market offering locally grown produce, value-added food and crafts to the greater Madison County Community.

We are open from April to October.

Located on College Street in downtown Mars Hill, North Carolina. We are open each Saturday from 10AM to 1PM.

We Accept SNAP/EBT (including SUN Bucks), Double SNAP, ASAP’s Farm Fresh Produce Prescription Program and NCDHHS Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Read below for more information about each of these programs:

  • SNAP/EBT: stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Transfer, the program formerly known as food stamps. It is a USDA nutritional assistance initiative administered at the state level. These funds can be used to purchase food-producing plants and food products (produce, meat, bread, cheese, etc.) except for hot ready-to-eat foods. Visit the market information booth to swipe your EBT card for any amount, then receive that amount in SNAP tokens, in $1 increments. SNAP tokens may be used for SNAP-eligible items with any vendor.
  • SUN Bucks: USDA program that provides grocery-buying benefits in a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on a debit-like card that can be used to buy nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out.
  • Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetables: When you swipe your SNAP/EBT or SUN Bucks card you can get an additional match, up to $20, in Farm Fresh Bucks. Farm Fresh Bucks may be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Farm Fresh Produce Prescription: This is a program through the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP). Participating healthcare providers can prescribe patients more fresh fruits and vegetables to help treat or prevent diet-related illness. Patients redeem their prescription, from $20-62 each week, for Farm Fresh Bucks, which can be spent on fruits and vegetables at a local farmers market. If you have Medicaid, you may also be eligible through the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) via Impact Health. Contact your Medicaid provider to see if you are eligible.
  • Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program: This is a summer (July-September) program through the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services, providing vouchers to eligible lower-income older adults to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh cut herbs. Seniors can sign up and receive vouchers through Beacon of Hope in Marshall, NC.

Feel free to contact us with any questions and we look forward to seeing you at the market!
